Facilitating Data Review Sessions - or - Data parties!

Recently at the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH) Academy, Salanga (Salanga founded and operates Kinaki) had the privilege of presenting with World Vision Canada on “From Data Collection to Use: Enhancing Your Monitoring and Evaluation Journey.” We took participants on an interactive journey through the lifecycle of data—sharing strategies for effective collection, real-time analysis, and collaborative review to drive data-informed decisions and continuous improvement.

One of the highlights? Data Parties—our favourite way to transform data review into a team celebration of learning and progress!

Check out the presentation in the slides below (or download it) and watch the recording at the bottom of this post to see a demo of how Kinaki is used for Data Review Sessions.

How do we use Kinaki to facilitate Data Parties?

There are a few key features that are really helpful for understanding project data and facilitating discussions.

We’ll talk about viewing your indicator results in the Results Overview, Results Analysis and the Results Details sections in Kinaki.

Results Overview:

First you’ll want to open the Results Overview for the indicator you want to review with your team.

The Results Overview can be accessed on the dashboard by finding the appropriate indicator and selecting the ‘Results Overview’ button. Or, you can access the Results Overview on the Analyze Data page.

Select the appropriate chart type to help present the data in an easy-to-understand way. You can also compare the various data sets and the progress of the indicator over time by selecting the data sets you want to view in the Results Overview.

Project Admins can set up the chart type and data sets to show in the Results Overview (watch this video to learn how!).

Results Details:

Open the ‘Results Details’ section from the Analyze Data page to get more insights. The Results Details will show you, for example, the response rate to all possible options in a multiple choice question, to see if another option that was not visible in your indicator calculation is important to consider:

Results Analysis

Make use of the Results Analysis section on the Analyze Data page. Use this section to record the findings of your discussion. These notes will serve as a helpful reminder when you go to write a report or analyze a new data set.
