The Copy Data Collection Tool function (Copy DCT) allows you to copy a DCT from any Project you are a part of to another, it also allows you to copy a DCT within the same Project. (Note: Currently you cannot copy Manual Results Input (MRI) data collection tools)
In what use cases is this feature commonly used?
If you have multiple Projects that are all collecting similar data (e.g. filling out the same indicator tracking sheets, conducting very similar surveys with only slight differences in wording) you can create the DCT in one Project and copy it over to another Project and make any modifications needed.
Within the same project it can be helpful if you use different forms (DCTs) that ask similar questions or have a similar structure but ask different questions – you can copy the DCT within the project and then edit the questions/delete/add as needed.
How to Copy a Data Collection Tool
- Open up the Project where you would like the DCT to be. Go to the the “MEL Design” page in the “Design Project” section of Kinaki, and select “+ Data Collection Tools”:
2. In the “Add Data Collection Tools” modal, select “COPY DCT”
3. Follow the instructions in the modal by selecting the Organization you’re copying the DCT from (if the DCT is in another Organization for which you are an Admin, please request the Kinaki team to make the copy for you by reaching out on the live chat), the Project where the DCT is located, and then select the DCT itself. Then you will give the new DCT a name so you can identify it easily after it has been copied. Finally, select “Create Data Collection Tool”:
4. Copying the DCT may take a few minutes, you will see a notification in the top right corner of the page that the copying is in progress and the same notification will tell you when the copy is complete:
5. When the copying is complete, the notification will tell you that the DCT has been copied, and you will find the DCT at the bottom of your list of data collection tools.
Now that your DCT is copied, you may want to edit the questions within the DCT. To edit the questions in the copied data collection tool, proceed to the “Collect Data” section of Kinaki and open up the copied DCT by selecting it from the data collection tool selector at the top of the page.
